THE wet weather proved problematic for the cricket season on Saturday.

Many matches failed to finish due to the weather, with a crunch clash between Chingford and Hadleigh & Thundersley ending in a draw.

Chingford batted first in the Premier League encounter and were bowled out for 195.

Skipper Sam Handley took 4/49 with the ball for Hadleigh who also claimed four run outs.

In reply, Hadleigh ended on 125/6 as the match ended in a draw.

Nick Gibb top scored with 52 for Hadleigh who picked up seven points with Chingford securing nine.

Hadleigh remain second from bottom in the table, 17 points clear of Chingford.

In Division One, second placed Billericay drew at Gidea Park & Romford.

Billericay were put into bat after losing the toss and scored 150/5 before deciding to declare.

Opener Grant Roelofsen scored an impressive 70 from just 55 balls while Matthew Bell added 65 not out.

Billericay pushed hard for the win but the match ended with Gidea Park on 75/5.

Ross Poulton was the pick of Billericay’s bowlers as he took 3/27 as the visitors secured six points.

In Division Two, Westcliff’s match at Aztecs was abandoned due to the weather.

Aztecs scored 158/3 with Callum Mortimer taking 2/37.

In reply. fourth placed Westcliff made 53/3, with opener Charlie Lockhart unbeaten on 44 when the match was stopped.

Both sides picked up six points for their efforts.

In Division Three, Benfleet’s match at home to Newham was cancelled due to the rain while Wickford drew at Harlow.

Wickford batted first after winning the toss and scored 204/8.

Opener Zisan Abedin hit 70 while Tony Munyonga added 56 and Tom Merritt 37 before Harlow scored 149/9.

Zisan Abedin (5/49) and John Grimes (4/45) were the pick of Wickford’s bowlers.

Elsewhere, fourth placed Leigh on Sea suffered a 30 run defeat at table-topping Stanford le Hope.

Stanford scored 148/9 with Shaun Du Plessis (4/45) and Tim Knox (4/67) both bowling well before Leigh were dismissed for 118.

In Division Four, Southend & EMT’S match at home to South Woodford was abandoned with the visitors on 86/3.
