SOUTHEND United striker Harry Cardwell is keen to keep Blues buzzing this season.

The Shrimpers striker scored his first goal of the season in Tuesday night's 2-0 win against Boston United at Roots Hall.

And the forward is loving the club's new found feel-good factor since the change of ownership.

"There's a feel-good factor around the club now, said Cardwell.

"A match day does feel different and there's a buzz around the place too.

"There are fans all over the place in the city which is great and there's a really good feeling which we want to keep going."

Blues' victory against the Pilgrims was their first of the season after kicking off with two draws in succession.

And Cardwell was pleased with the manner of the win.

"We set out wanting to play how we played a lot of last season," said the 27-year-old.

"We wanted to dominate the ball and press well.

"We set the tone from the first minute really and the message at half-time was to be more ruthless and to take our chances "We wanted to put the game bed and got it 2-0 which is a precarious scoreline.

"But we ended up seeing the game out comfortably and it was very professional."

Cardwell also helped that happen by hitting the back of the net after just two minutes.

And he was pleased to see play continue after he outmuscled Zak Mills before firing home.

"In a lot of those situations the ref will often give a foul but from my point of view they never are because they're trying to get across me and it's shoulder to shoulder," said Cardwell.

"He's ended up on the floor and I've put it in the back of the net.

"It was nice to get the first goal and get that one out the way too.

"I was unfortunate with a few others and probably should’ve scored another but strikers always want more and I'll be looking to do that on Saturday now."

Blues head to Barnet this weekend and will go into the game full of confidence after their midweek win.

"It's been a good start but it was important to get the win after the way the previous two games have gone," said Cardwell.

"To get the three points was vital."
