SOUTHEND United head coach Kevin Maher was pleased with the impact James Morton made off the bench against Dagenham & Redbridge.
Morton helped the Shrimpers get back on top after replacing Cav Miley in midfield 10 minutes from time.
And his performance earned praise from Maher.
"He gets control of the ball and he has a good range of passing,” said Maher.
“He kept it simple and we kept switching play to get one v one on the outside.
“I’m really pleased with Morts but we’re stretched now as a squad."
Blues drew 2-2 with Dagenham & Redbridge on Monday with Gus Scott-Morriss heading an injury-time equaliser.
The Shrimpers will look to build on the point when they head to AFC Fylde this weekend.
