ADAM Crowther is certain results will soon start to improve for Southend United.
The Shrimpers - who drew 2-2 with Dagenham & Redbridge at Roots Hall on Monday - have taken six points from their opening five games of the season.
But Crowther is confident Kevin Maher’s side will soon start to bolster that tally.
“It’s still early days,” said the 23-year-old defender.
“We’re getting to grips with things because there was still the unknown throughout pre-season but that’s all behind us now.
“We’re focusing on improving and we’re working hard.
“The results will definitely come because I don’t think performances have been bad.
“It’s just moments in games we need to improve on but that will come.”
Crowther is also keen to help make that happen after being restored to the starting line-up for two games in quick succession over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Crowther had been on the bench for the opening three games of the season but is now determined to make the most of his opportunity.
“I started the season on the bench but I’ve always been ready to come in once called upon,” said Crowther.
“Saturday was a surprise and I thought I was going to be on the bench again but all the boys are always ready if needed.
“I’m fine and happy to be playing but the results are all that matters.”
The Shrimpers added another point to their tally against Dagenham, thanks to a last gasp leveller from Gus Scott-Morriss.
And Crowther was delighted to avoid defeat.
“At the end and with the way the game panned out it’s a really good point,” said the defender.
“There were a lot of tired legs out there after playing Saturday, Monday.
“Dagenham had an extra day to recover and it was a good point in the end.
“We’re disappointed given the way we’ve started not to get all three but we move on.”
And Crowther was also pleased with the spirit on show.
“Everyone knows the character we have in the building and we’ll always go to that very last kick,” said the defender.
“It showed again on Monday and it doesn’t matter who is on the pitch we’ll always do our absolute best to try and get the result.”
Blues will now look to do that at AFC Fylde this weekend.
And Crowther is keen to secure the first away win of the season.
“All the away games are tough at this level but it’s one we’re looking forward to and can hopefully get three points in,” he added.
