BOWERS & Pitsea bagged a brilliant 2-1 win at Billericay Town in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup on Saturday.
Valckx Fernandes’ winner 10 minutes from time proved to be the difference between the two Isthmian Premier Division teams after the hosts Tyrell Miller-Rodney had cancelled out Rohdell Gordon’s opener.
And Gordon was delighted to help secure Bowers’ first win of the season, “The win was delightful and well deserved,” said Gordon.
“I thought on the day we were more promising and created a lot of good opportunities in the final third.
“We’ve been waiting for our first win and this will kick start the rest of our season for sure.”
Bowers, who were promoted from Isthmian North last season, have kicked off the new campaign with one point from their first five games.
But Gordon feels performances have been better than results have suggested so far.
“We haven’t been fortunate as of late but we’re always in and amongst games,” said Gordon.
“No team have completely outplayed or outrun us but we know we need to start picking up some league wins and climbing the table.”
Gordon is determined to help that happen and has been encouraged by his own attacking output in the first few games.
“I’ve been reasonably pleased with my personal stats with two goals and three assists in six games,” said Gordon.
“I just hope to continue the form and get more wins on board which is the main thing.
“It’s a challenging league and we are a newly promoted side, so things may take longer to click, but I have no doubt that we’ll be fine.”
