BENFLEET will be looking to continue their encouraging start to the Essex Senior League season when they host Stansted tonight.
Newly promoted Benfleet beat Buckhurst Hill 1-0 at the Woodside Stadium on Saturday.
And chairman Dan Wright is hoping to see the side build on that success this evening.
“We can’t wait to welcome Stansted for another midweek game under the lights on Tuesday night, and hopefully another three points,” said Wright.
“It was a really hard fought win on Saturday.
“It was a good battle between two decent sides and it was an absolute screamer for Billy Carter to win us the game late on.”
Carter scored the only goal of the game from long range six minutes from time to secure a win which moved Benfleet 11th in the table with six points from four matches.
Stansted, who are 18th, have yet to win in the league this season and have taken just two points from their first five games.
Elsewhere this evening, second placed Great Wakering Rovers head to Little Oakley aiming to build on their encouraging start to the campaign.
A last gasp penalty from skipper Ben Search handed Wakering a 1-0 win against Ilford at Burroughs Park on Saturday.
And Marcus Bowers’ side will now be bidding for more points tonight.
Wakering have yet to lose in the league this term and have taken 10 points from their first four games.
However, Little Oakley will be looking to make it tough for them this evening.
Oakley have five points from three games this season.
Hullbridge Sports have endured a more inconsistent start to the campaign and face a tough looking test at home to third placed Romford tonight.
Hullbridge were beaten 1-0 by Frenford at the TJ Cottis Stadium on Saturday and are now 10th in the table with six points from four games.
White Ensign - who have not played since mid-August - are back in action tomorrow as they host Buckhurst Hill at Burroughs Park.
Ensign are 13th in the table with five points from three games while Buckhurst Hill are 15th with four points from their first five games.
