KEVIN Maher says Southend United will be ready for their third away game in eight days tonight.
The Shrimpers travel to Wealdstone this evening having already taken on AFC Fylde and Solihull Moors in the last week.
But Maher is certain Blues will be able to cope with the busy schedule.
“That’s the concern but the response at Solihull on Saturday was good after travelling in the week,” said Maher.
“It was a late one after Fylde and training has become minimal but we’ve got to be ready for the games because they’re coming thick and fast.
“I’m sure we’ll be ready for this one too and the players will be in a good mood off the back of Saturday but we’ve got to be focused.”
The Shrimpers triumphed 4-2 at Solihull Moors on Saturday and are now looking to make it back to back wins for the first time this season.
But Maher is expecting another big test against Wealdstone who sit 22nd in the National League standings.
“Of course you always want to follow up a good performance and result with another one but we know how tough it will be because it always has been tough every time we’ve been there,” said Maher.
“It will be no different tonight even though they had a disappointing result at the weekend against Barnet (losing 3-0).
“They’ve had some really good performances lately and watching the game on Saturday they were right in it up until the goals went in.”
The Shrimpers, who are 13th in the table, again look set to go into the clash short of options.
But Maher is pleased with how Macauley Bonne has performed since being thrown into the starting line-up so shortly after signing.
“He’s led the line ever so well for us,” said Maher.
“He has that experience and he’s getting fitter all the time.
“For him to come in and play the number of minutes he has straight away because we’re so short is testament to him.
“He didn’t have a full pre-season but he’s kept himself fit and I’m delighted with the impact he’s had.”
Fellow forward Josh Walker is edging closer to a return from a hamstring injury.
But Maher did not give much away when asked if the former Dagenham front-man might be back in the squad this evening.
“We’ll wait and see,” said Maher.
“We’ll train and see where he’s at.
“He’s getting closer day by day but we’re still short squad wise.”
