FINLAY Dorrell is keen to enjoy another memorable cup run - this time with Canvey Island.
The 18-year-old striker won the FA Vase at Wembley with Romford last season.
But Dorrell is now targeting triumphs in the FA Cup, starting with Sunday’s third qualifying round clash at Biggleswade.
“The cup run has been good,” said the Rochford based youngster.
“We have had to make it hard for ourselves in some of these FA Cup games but we are winning games in the competition and it just helps the team’s morale.
“It gives us momentum for Sunday which we expect will be another hard game.
“We shouldn’t take teams for granted because in FA Cup games anything can happen but I think the boys are more than capable to put us in the draw for the next round.”
Dorrell is already fully aware of the momentum which can be gathered by cup competitions.
And he will never forget being part of Romford’s memorable triumph last term.
“Being a part of something so great at 17 years old was something I’ll remember for the rest of my life,” said Dorrell.
“To be given the opportunity by Romford at such a young age in my first year at senior football was amazing and will stay with me for a long time.”
Dorrell’s fine form also attracted the attention of Canvey.
And is now becoming more used to playing at a higher level.
“Joining Canvey was always going to be a challenge for myself as I haven’t played at this level yet,” said Dorrell.
“But as the season has gone on being coached by Brad (Wellmen), Sammy (Knott) and even the boys I feel more confident.
“I feel like we have such a special group of lads that can go far and do well.”
And Dorrell is keen to play his part in that happening.
“Individually I just want to keep playing well and doing as much as I can to help the team as much as possible to keep winning games,” said Dorrell on his hopes for the season.
“I think the boys know that we are good enough to achieve good things this season but we’ll be taking it each game at a time.”
