The under-15s girls' football team are looking ahead to a bright new season after making school history reaching the National Cup semi-finals.

Sweyne Park School, based in Rayleigh, produced an outstanding cup run, overcoming strong opposition from across the country to secure a place among the final four teams in the competition.

A club spokesperson said: "It's a season to remember after reaching the national semi-finals of the National Cup 9-a-side competition in their first-ever appearance in the tournament.

"Throughout their journey, the girls demonstrated exceptional determination and resilience, travelling long distances and competing in difficult conditions, including heavy rain, strong winds and freezing temperatures. Despite the challenges, the team consistently showed their commitment, teamwork and passion for the game."

Although their historic run came to an end with a 5-1 defeat in the semi-final this month, the score did little to reflect the effort, character and spirit displayed by the squad throughout the competition.

The achievement marks a significant milestone for girls' football at Sweyne Park School and highlights the continued growth of the sport among young female athletes.

"Staff at the school praised the players for their dedication, sportsmanship and positive attitude, with every member of the squad playing an important role in the team's success," the spokesperson added.

Reaching a national semi-final in their debut season is a remarkable accomplishment and one that has made the entire school community proud.
