Kieron Dyer will be looking to improve his body language on the sidelines when Southend United host Kidderminster Harriers at Roots Hall tonight.
The Shrimpers head coach made his displeasure obvious to see throughout Saturday’s 3-1 win at Solihull Moors.
And Dyer is fully aware he must do better to ensure he has a positive impact on his players.
“From a reflection point of view we were disappointed with the second half, which wasn’t great and I’ve owned that to the players,” explained Dyer.
“I’m new to the job and I don’t know if you’ve seen my reaction and body language in the first two games when players are making mistakes - I’m clapping them and applauding them.
“On reflection, I brought a nervous energy to our players I thought (on Saturday).
“Every time there was a misplaced pass I had my head in my hands or I’d be looking to the sky.
“If players are looking over and seeing the leader of the pack, the manager, it makes them anxious.”
And Dyer is keen for things to be better on and off the pitch.
“I thought our whole second half was anxious and yes we could be better, but that was on me and my body language,” said the former Ipswich Town midfielder.
“My reaction should have been encouraging because I’ve always said to them I don’t care about mistakes.
“If they’re making mistakes then my body language has to be better.
“But you learn every day in the job and that’s something I will be taking into the future.
“You’ve always got to have positive body language for our players because they need me.
“We want to play a certain way and there are going to be mistakes.
“We’ll learn from it, I’ll learn from it and the players will too.”
Dyer will aiming to show that this evening as Blues start a run of three games in the space of nine days.
But he is pleased with the location of the Shrimpers’ games during a busy period.
“I think we’ve been really blessed with the fixtures,” said Dyer.
“I don’t mean the quality of the teams we’re playing, I mean we’ve got two home games and you can class Woking as a home game too really.
“There will be a lot of teams travelling up and down the country for these three games coming up.
“We’ve been very fortunate that we’ve kind of got three home games but we will be using the squad.
“We feel like we’ve got good numbers in midfield and at the back, so I’m sure everyone will feature in the three games coming up because we’re going to need everybody.
“We can’t risk any injuries and we will be freshening it up at times.”
