Southend United boss Kieron Dyer stays patient in pursuit of signings

EFL clubs have until late on Tuesday evening to bolster their options.

But there are no such restrictions for National League sides and Dyer feels staying patient could be the best option for Blues - unless injuries get in the way.

“There are still targets and talks,” said Dyer.

“We feel this is a big week so we could be pushing the gun, depending on how Friday and Monday goes.

“In an ideal situation because we don’t have a transfer window - once the EFL transfer window shuts we feel we can really go and get the targets we feel are left over.

“It all depends on injuries but if we get through the next two games unscathed then I feel once the EFL window shuts then we will bring a few players in a few days after that because we’ll have a clearer idea on who is available.”

The Shrimpers are still keen to bring in another striker.

Former Colchester United forward Samson Tovide is training with the club.

But Dyer stressed Tovide was not the only target.

“Samson is still around but he’s got a lot of options,” said Dyer.

“We just have to wait and see what happens in September with Samson but it’s not all about him.

“We have a number of players in mind in different areas of the pitch and we will be pushing on them because I still think we’ve got the smallest squad in the National League.

“We need players in and lets see what happens in the next two games.”

Harry Cardwell and Charley Kendall will continue to push for selection in attack.

And Dyer still expects there to be good news surrounding the future of Leon Parillon coming out soon.

Dyer hinted at the start of the season that the attacking midfielder was set to stay.

But he did not give much away when asked about him at the pre-match press conference.

“Everything is positive with the news coming,” said Dyer.

“That’s all I can say on the matter and hopefully there will be some positive news soon.”
