SOUTHEND United coach Danny Heath expects tonight’s FA Youth Cup tie against AFC Wimbledon to be a good yardstick for his side.

The Shrimpers take on the Dons in a first-round clash at Roots Hall this evening.

And Heath is excited to see how his side match up against strong opposition.

“We’re in a position where we feel we are EFL ready and this is a good test to see where we’re at,” said Heath.

“We feel we’ve got EFL quality so it will be a good test to see where we are at the moment.

“It’s a game we’re looking forward to as well.

“We’re happy to be playing at home again and it will be a tough test against a good academy.”

But Heath is keen for Blues to get on the front foot.

“We’ve done our homework but the focus is going to be on us,” said Heath.

“We’re not going to be setting up to not lose or to contain them.

“We’re going to be setting up to focus on ourselves, playing to our strengths and being on the front foot.

“We’ll take the game to them.”
