APART from Ben Hunter’s fine run, the best local performance by a local athlete in the South of England Cross-Country Championships came from Thurrock Harriers’ Canvey schoolgirl Jessica Judd.
Despite running against many athletes a school year ahead of her, Judd finished sixth in the under-15 girls.
Judd is likely to figure for Essex in the Southern inter-counties event at Biggleswade this weekend.
Southend females involved are Aimee Garnett, Jessica Mead, Camilla Smee, Emily Burgess, Kerry Holland, Danielle Hurley and Claire Cornwell.
Boys runners from the Seasiders are Sam Brown, Rob Frith, Ben Austin, George Moxon and Oliver Kyriakedes.
