BLUES new boy Dorian Dervite loved his first taste of League One action yesterday.

The centre-back, who has signed on loan from Tottenham Hotspur until the end of the season, looked assured at centre-back.

And he was delighted to start with a win and a clean sheet as he kept Rickie Lambert – the league’s top scorer quiet – to help the Shrimpers triumph 1-0.

“I’m happy with my first game,” said the 20-year-old Frenchman.

“It was quite physical but I like that side of the English game and I am happy we have won and not let in any goals.”

Dervite now hopes to develop his career by figuring in more matches for Steve Tilson’s side who he wants to help rise back up the table.

“I am here to play games and get more used to English football,” he said.

“Southend are a good team so I am happy to be here and hopefully we can keep on doing well.”

Dervite helped the Shrimpers keep their first clean sheet since Boxing Day and earned praise from manager Steve Tilson.

“Dorian did well for us,” said the Blues boss.

“Technically he’s a very good player and it was a hard game to come in for as he was up against Lambert but I thought he was excellent.”
