THEO Robinson wants to show he has the talent to get to the top during his loan stint with Southend United.

The young striker, from Watford, produced a superb man of the match display for the Shrimpers in last weekend’s 1-0 win over Bristol Rovers.

And he is now seeking to maintain that high standard in attempt to secure himself a bright future in the game.

“I want to prove myself again at Southend,” said the 20-year-old.

“At the start of the season I was injured, then I wasn’t really involved when I came back so it was quite frustrating.

“But now I’ve got my chance to play football again and I’m just hoping to take it.”

Robinson, 20, rose through the ranks at Vicarage Road but first came to prominence at Hereford United last term scoring 16 goals to help Graham Turner’s team clinch promotion from League Two.

Robinson formed a fine partnership with former Shrimpers striker Gary Hooper while at Edgar Street.

But he is hoping to enjoy more success while at Roots Hall.

“My aim is to help the team get back into a good league position basically,” said Robinson.

“And I’ve got to make sure that I’m scoring goals to make that happen and doing well for my future as well.”

That means Robinson is hungry to soon net his first Blues goal and he is confident of working his way back onto the score-sheet.

“Last year I played lots of football and scored goals, so it’s only a matter of time before I start scoring again,” he said.

“I’m due a goal — I always say that if I go three games without a goal, because that’s my target all the time.

“Hopefully when I get one they will keep coming and I’ll keep scoring for the team and help win games. That’s how I can contribute to what we want to achieve.”

Blues remain desperate to surge up the League One standings and Robinson is already convinced that can happen.

Saturday’s triumph over Bristol Rovers was just Southend’s second in the league since late October.

And Robinson wants that success to signal a change in fortune for the Shrimpers.

“We’ve got to start getting more points — that’s the main thing really,” he stressed.

“It’s about everybody coming together and working together.

“If we do that then I think we’ll be okay.

“It’s just one of those things where we’ve not been getting as much luck as other teams; they’re getting more than us, even when we’re working hard. I think the luck will come our way soon and it’s only a matter of time before it’s us winning.”

Robinson also feels he can give more to help Southend triumph and will improve as he starts to regain his match sharpness.

“Last Tuesday night at Leeds was my first 90 minutes in a first team game for quite a while,” he said.

“It’s been good for me but I’ve got to get used to it again.

“I’m playing more football and my body is starting to get accustomed to it.

“I’m not as sharp as I’m used to, but hopefully, I’m getting there through training and more matches and I’ll get back there.”

“Hopefully, Watford are watching me but right now it matters how I do for Southend and for myself as well.”
