GRAYS Athletics chairman Mike Woodward will step down from his position at the club’s annual meeting on June 8.

This follows comments made by supporters at the Histon game on Tuesday night which were directed at him, implying he was no longer wanted at the club, along with other recent rumours that continue to surround him.

Grays lost their midweek match 4-1 to slump further into relegation trouble and Woodward thanked the supporters who have stood by him since his arrival at the club.

He added that he is leaving due to a minority who seem intent on destroying his tenure at the club.

Before standing down Woodward insisted that he wants to go on record that he will leave the club in a financial position that will allow Grays to function within its own means which in turn will determine which level they play at.

He insisted that emotionally and financially he feels he cannot continue anymore.

Woodward will continue to hold his Grays’ shares and directorship to safeguard his investments made since arriving at the club.

Earlier in the week Woodward denied rumours that Grays were to merge with AFC Hornchurch.
