THE Dockers did the cluster of fellow Essex clubs battling for promotion a massive favour with this home win over fourth-placed Abbey.
Busily preparing for Wednesday week’s League Cup final, Tilbury were made to fight on a pitch made heavy by frequent showers.
They took the lead on 32 minutes when Jason Fontaine’s fierce shot following a corner was deflected into the net by Jason Phillips.
And, after home keeper Andy Hall had kept his side in front with good saves from Harry Elmes and Billy Holland, the hosts settled the issue. A long goal-kick from Hall saw the referee ignore an assistant’s flag for offside as Greg Cohen went clear to settle the three points.
