PEGASUS & Corringham overcame early Stock pressure to record a five-wicket win in their mid-table Premier Division clash.

After winning the toss and electing to bat it looked like Stock would post a competitive total after a solid start.

At 100-3 they had the platform and with some solid hitting from Westwood they reached 200 with overs left. Paceman Hathaway rolled back the years with a few rip-snorter deliveries but it was left to Pegs skipper Bennett to slow up the visitors.

He initially took Westwood (80) to a high catch in the deep from Francis, then squeezed the remainder of the tail who struggled to hit the home bowling, leaving Stock with a slightly below par score of 211-8.

Bennett finished with season best figures 5-40 from 9 overs, with opener Laird taking 2-42 from his 12.

The home side were in confident mood and reached 55 for the opening wicket (Francis 17) but with the ball seaming and variable bounce rife the batsmen needed to be watchful.

Hymas (50) supported Bennett with a mature display, the pair recording a superb 134-run partnership, but it was to be the Benno show, after reaching his half century inside 12 overs that even the visiting side had to sit back and watch!

A little hesitant in the 90s the home skipper then fell for 109, chalking his first ton of the season, pushing P&C on to secure the home win for five wickets.

Rayleigh visited Springfield II in Division Two and earned a 69-run win.

The hosts were bowled out for 225, with Mark Cane taking 5-64. Leaders Rettendon recorded a 70-run win over Boreham in their Division Three clash.

It was one of the rare occasions where Rettendon were quite happy to lose the toss, as overnight rain made the pitch pretty damp, so it was a bit of a guess how the pitch would play.

With Rettendon batting first, openers J Roworth and Tim Everitt put on a good stand of 56 before Everitt departed LBW for 26.

The next three bats could only muster 30 between them and things were looking slightly shaky at 86-4 before Si Bryant (57no) played a crucial partnership with Jon Roworth (116no) seeing Rettendon to tea amassing a formidable target of 246-4.

Boreham made a good effort keeping up with the run rate, but wickets were falling at the same time and they finished with 176 all out off 39 overs. The main strike bowler for Rettendon was Luke Snelling who finished up with figures of 6-51 off 10 overs.

In reply Margaretting were dismissed for just 100 as Patel took 3- 13 and Kannan 2-0.

Hockley II lost by nine wickets away to South Weald II Hockley batted first and were quickly reduced to 50-5 as a result of a superb opening spell from Naeem (3-42) and Townson (2-62).

But Pastfield (96) lead a recovery and allowed Hockley to reach 200-8.

In reply South Weald looked to be behind the asking rate at 30 overs however keeping wickets in hand allowed greater risks to be taken and the winning total was finally reached with one over to go.

Imbert 65 and Yeomans 89 were the main men as Weald replied for 201-1.

Rayleigh Fairview travelled to Purleigh and came away with a 61-run defeat.

Purleigh batted first and were indebted to 60 from Bowles and 62 from Freegard for posting a tough 246-8 despite 4-40 from Warren.

In reply Fairview slumped to 185 all out as a result of tight bowling particularly from Hinton (4-25) although Warren scored 78 and Osborne 33 for the visitors.

Springfield IV were Rayleigh III’s visitors and saw their hosts notch up a comfortable nine-wicket Division Eight win.

The visitors managed just 91-9 in their 45 overs, with Ben Stevens being the pick of the bowlers with 12 overs, eight maidens, one wicket for eight runs.

The 3s passed this total for the loss of 1 wicket, Tom Walker top scoring with 52 not out as they hit 93-1. Rayleigh’s fourth team defeated Galleywood II by three wickets in Division 10.

Nathan Healey took 5-24 as Baddow were bowled out for 161 in 30 overs.

Having 60 overs to score the runs looked highly achievable, but only Chris Grob (36) made a useful contribution and the fifths finished on 140 all out to lose by 21 runs.
