Westcliff took control of this game in the first 20 minutes.

And this early dominance meant that they reaped the reward and never looked back as they triumphed 30-10 at Stevenage Town.

On eight minutes John Sigwart crossed for a try.

His effort was then converted by Ben McKeith.

With 13 minutes played, James Culwick went in for a try which was not converted. This made the score 12-0 inside the first 20 minutes.

The game was 21 minutes old when Paul Radley outpaced the cover for a try which McKeith converted to make it 19-0.

Stevenage had to re-group or go under heavily.

They chose to fight and good work saw them notch a try for a half time score of 19-5.

McKeith extended the lead early in the second half with a penalty goal for 22-5 but the Hertfordshire side were not out of it and came back to score their second try to narrow the gap to 12 points.

However Westcliff always had more power to use if needed.

A penalty from the boot of Paul Dan made the score 25-10 and on 76 minutes Dash Allum went in for the final try and chairman Rick Compton was pleased with the performance.

"We got on top in the first 20 minutes or so and a couple of tries saw us clear,” said Compton.

"Stevenage came back at us and we could not afford to relax but we always appeared to have an extra gear to use if necessary."
