ESSEX Pirates star Taner Adu wants his side to maintain their momentum for the remainder of the season.

The Southend-based team bagged back-to-back wins for the first time this term last weekend as they beat both Guildford Heat and London Capital.

And Adu now hopes there can be more victories to come.

“Back-to-back wins is something we should have done before now really, but it was great to win both games and now we want to keep it going,” said the free-scoring forward. “We have five matches left and it would be great to get more wins from them.”

Pirates saw off Heat 93-84 before also beating Capital 73-64.

Adu bagged 14 points in the first of those fixtures and 21 in the second to take him past the 500 mark for the season.

And he is now the 10th highest scorer in the British Basketball League.

“I was pleased with that and I’ve also now gone past 100 assists too, which is good,” said Adu.

“Things have been going well but it means a lot more when the points you get contribute towards the team winning, which is what we have been doing lately.

“We have won three of our last four and it’s great that our hard work is now paying off.”

Pirates are back in action this weekend as they visit Worcester Wolves on Saturday before heading to Sheffield Sharks on Monday.

Adu is expecting two tough tests but is now confident his team can come out on top.

“We’ve run Wolves close before, even when playing badly, and we feel like we owe them one,” said the 26-year-old.

“They have beaten some top teams so it’s going to be hard, and Sheffield will be as well.

“They are one of the two strongest teams in the league, but hopefully we can go there and cause a major upset.”

>Pirates’ next home game takes places against Worcester Wolves on Saturday, April 10. The club have announced a ticket package which will see two children get in for free with every paying adult.

The match is being played at the Southend Leisure and Tennis Centre and tips-off at 7.30pm.
