THE fishing at Doggetts has dramatically improved this week with good bags of roach bream.

And some excellent tench have been landed at the Rochford water, although maggots are still essential for continual sport.

The carp anglers saw fish moving on most parts of the lakes and, despite a reasonable number of fish being landed, carp fishing certainly is not easy. The advice is do not ignore the margins.

Paul Bevan fished an evening on the point of the south bank and landed a fine 19lb mirror at long range.

Rochford angler Matt Price also managed an evening on the short arm where an 18lb common gave him great sport.

Lewis Clark fished a couple of short sessions. The first saw him land a scrappy 14lb common and a 19lb mirror on the south bank.

His second visit saw him in a very tight swim on the long arm. Within 20 minutes Clark had a 15lb mirror in his net.

Doggetts regular Rob Snowden fished a few sessions in the bays on the north bank and was rewarded with a 19lb mirror.

Cliff Lamb fished his first session this year on the south bank and was pleased to land tench, bream and a 15lb mirror.

The prettiest fish of the week definitely fell to Anthony Gull, who enjoyed playing a superb 20lb fully scaled mirror while fishing a single rod equipped with a centre pin.

And the best haul of the week fell to Lee Cox, who caught conditions just right when he fished the long arm and landed four double mirrors to 19lbs while floater fishing with chum mixers.
