SOUTHEND United right-back Sean Clohessy insists it will be business as usual on his return to Gillingham tonight.

The 23-year-old spent four years with the Gills at the start of his career, making 46 appearances.

But he feels that does not add extra spice to this evening’s encounter at the Priestfield Stadium.

“For me I just see it like I would any other game,” said Clohessy.

“It’s all about wanting to play well and trying to get the three points and that will be exactly the same tonight, even if I did used to play for them.”

Clohessy was released by then Gills boss Mark Stimson in July 2009 before being snapped up by Salisbury City.

A move to Southend then followed in the summer but the defender insists he has nothing to prove to his ex employers.

“I think the only person you have to prove something to is yourself,” said Clohessy.

“I don’t think I have anything to prove to Gillingham and I enjoyed my time there with them.

“I don’t have any regrets about anything I did there and it was for them I got my first taste of playing in the Football League.”

Clohessy missed Southend’s penalty shoot out triumph over Gillingham in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy at the end of August.

The match ended 0-0 after 90 minutes and the right-back is expecting another tight game tonight.

“I know the players there well and it will be a difficult game for us,” said Clohessy.

“They have a great home record and it will be hard for us but we go there after a good win on Saturday so we’re looking forward to it.”
