SOUTHEND United manager Paul Sturrock was disappointed by his side’s display against Lincoln City.

An early Barry Corr header gave Blues all three points at Roots Hall.

But that was not enough to satisfy Sturrock.

“That was probably our poorest performance of the season at home,” slammed the Scotsman.

“Too many people got sloppy and didn’t work hard enough in the shape of the team.”

That made Sturrock’s side visibily anxious towards the end and he believes things are starting to play on their minds.

“We are also beginning to have a mental problem with playing at Roots Hall as well “If the game lasted 10 minutes then we would win every home game but we score then look lethargic, we sit back and our passing goes to disarray.

“That gives a team an opportunity to take the points and we did the same against Morecambe and Torquay.

“We have to get to the bottom of it and I’m a bit worried because the crowd went quiet as well.

“They’re worried and apprehensive too and it’s all in the melting pot at this moment in time.”

Despite his frustration, Sturrock opted to remain calm with his players at the final whistle, choosing instead to watch a recording of the game before passing his final judgement.

“I went in the changing room after the game thinking I was going to be all guns blazing but I decided not to,” said Sturrock.

“I thought it would be inappropriate as we would all be a bit hyped up.

“I’ll watch the 90 minutes again and then have a chat about things once we’ve all cooled down.”

But he will at least be buoyed by Blues’ defending as they grabbed their first home clean sheet of the season.

“The defence has taken a bit of criticism and we’ve worked on it,” he said.

“We’ve got two clean sheets in a row and but for a mad opening few minutes at Hereford it would’ve been three which is pleasing, as too is the result.”
