Canvey were made to pay for failing to take their chances as they slipped to a home defeat to Kingstonian at the Brockwell Stadium.
The visitors took an 11th-minute lead when Max Hustwick headed home Matt Gray’s freekick.
The hosts were denied an immediate reply when K’s keeper Rob Tolfrey tipped over Danny Heale’s direct freekick.
And in first-half stoppage time, Canvey centre back Chris Moore headed a good chance into the side netting.
The Gulls continued to dominate after the break and Rob King had a stinging shot cleared off the line by Adam Thompson.
And the hosts were made to pay for the profligacy on 52 minutes when Kingstonian doubled their lead.
Tolfrey’s clearance fell into the path of Bobby Traynor and he hit the ball into the far corner of James Russell’s goal.
Kingstonian were reduced to ten men on 75 minutes when Jean Sylvain Dossou received a straight red following a clash with Jay Curran, who was booked.
Canvey continued to press but had efforts from Alex Rhodes and Heale saved by Tolfrey in the last five minutes.
