BURSTEAD Seniors played the return leg of their inter-club match against their Chelmsford counterparts, after losing the first encounter 5-3.

With the benefit of some good weather, both sides played inspirational golf.

It was nip and tuck in most of the matches, but Burstead avenged their first leg defeat by winning 5-3.

Now Burstead, who have only lost once this season, will hope to end the campaign on a positive note in their final game with Benton Hall.

In the October monthly medal competition, 30 hardy Burstead seniors turned out in appalling conditions to battle for honours.

Low scoring was not expected, and that proved to be the case apart from division one winner John Minto (12), who shot a nett 70. He was followed home by Bert Bridges (14) on 74, while Dave Dowsey (12) scored a nett 75.

In division two, the winner was John Cornwall (24) with a nett 76. He won on countback from Terry Vicker (23) and Mike Wares (28) on 79.

The veteran’s medal went to Ron Drew (25) with a nett 81.

Burstead will have their final away day of the season tomorrow at Woolston Manor, in Chigwell.
