SOUTHEND Rugby Club coach Jamie Connors wants his side to sign off for the Christmas break in style with a win over struggling Hinckley at Warners Bridge tomorrow.

After this Saturday, the Seasiders are not in action for three weeks.

And Connor therefore wants Southend to finish the year with a good result and performance.

“It’s important we keep the momentum going with a win tomorrow,” said Connors.

“We’ve won our last two and we want to make it three in a row to stay in contention with the teams just above us in the table.”

Southend are currently fourth in the National Two standings, which is in stark contrast to the way Hinckley have started the season.

They have triumphed in just one of their 13 matches so far this term and were beaten by Southend 53-10 towards the start of the campaign.

However, Connors was quick to point out that win now counts for nothing and has warned the Seasiders about becoming complacent.

“You have to be careful against the lower sides and Hinckley have been improving,” said Connors.

“They scored 20 points in their last game against Jersey so they will be dangerous opponents.

“And the margin of our victory against them at the start of the season probably flattered us a little bit too, so we’re definitely going to have to play well to win tomorrow.”

Southend have also been boosted by the return of the influential Andrew Frost for the game.

The Seasiders kicker, who plays on the wing, missed last week’s 31-26 victory over Old Albanians because of an illness.

But he is now ready to return.

“Frosty has been training all week so he’s ready to come back in to the mix which is good news for us,” said Connors.

“The game will bring to an end our first half of the season.

“And, although we’ve lost four games which we’re disappointed with, we’re still in contention “We still have all the top teams to play but before that we must make sure we see off Hinckley and that’s what we’re concentrating on at the moment.”
