ANTHONY Grant insists he will be fine to face his former Wycombe Wanderers side tomorrow.

The Southend United midfielder picked up a back problem during the midweek win at Cheltenham Town.

But he returned to training yesterday and is confident of being fit to take on the Chairboys.

“My back just started to hurt because I hadn’t played for a little while but I’m sure I will be fine to play on Saturday,” said Grant.

“I’m never completely alright but I should be OK to be out there again and we want to carry on from where we left off against Cheltenham because that was an excellent win for us.”

Grant, who has been Blues’ most consistent performer so far this season, is also keen to take on Wycombe having enjoyed a season long loan spell with the club during the 2006/07 campaign.

He made 49 appearances while with the Chairboys but hopes to get one over on them this weekend.

“I learnt a lot when I was with Wycombe and it was a good year I had there,” said Grant.

“I was only 19 or 20 at the time and I got to play a lot of games which helped me improve my game but of course I hope to beat them tomorrow.”

Grant figured alongside Kevin Betsy during that loan spell at Wycombe and then teamed up again with the winger at Southend.

He is therefore looking forward to facing him tomorrow but does not know what to expect from the winger.

“You’re never really too sure what you’re going to get from Kev,” said Grant.

“He is either going to be world class or dog and duck but it will be great to catch up with him again because he’s a good lad.”
