KEVIN Betsy returns to Roots Hall tomorrow insisting he never showed his best form for Southend United.

The Wycombe Wanderers winger made 50 appearances for Blues during an 18 month spell before joining the Chairboys last January.

But he does not know why things did not work out for him in essex.

“Things go for you at some clubs and not at others and I don’t think the Southend fans ever saw the best of me,” said Betsy.

“I enjoyed my time there and in some games I thought I played really well.

“I did finish at the top of the assists list and chipped in with a few goals which is all you can ask for as a wide-man.

“But it was an up and down season and I didn’t always play the way I knew I could.

”Despite that, I really enjoyed playing for Steve Tilson and Paul Brush and it was a shame things didn’t work out differently there.”

Betsy refused to blame the club’s off the field problems and being paid late for his poor form.

However, he has flourished since returning to Wycombe.

The 32-year-old has already scored six times this season and is enjoying being part of the club’s push for promotion.

“Wycombe is a club I know well and it’s always gone well for me here,” said Betsy.

“I have a manager who really believes in me and we’ve got a good chance of going up this season.

“There are a lot of clubs who will be thinking the same but we’re up there and we’re in a very positive frame of mind.

“We beat a good Bury side last Saturday so we’re facing Southend in a confident frame of mind and it’s obviously a game I’m looking forward to.”

Wycombe are currently sixth in the League Two standings and have not been beaten in any of their four visits to Roots Hall.
