THE top clash in the Premier Division of the Southend and District Table Tennis League saw Legra A victorious over current champions Runnymede A, 7-2.

Alex Abbott was unbeaten against a very strong Runnymede side.

He was ably supported by John Poysden and Paul Whatton who score two wins apiece.

Elsewhere there was a 7-2 victory for Rayleigh Mill over Hadleigh Forum A, thanks to a Duncan Taylor maximum.

Three wins from Django Fung then proved to be the difference for Lentern A as they beat Hullbridge A 5-4 and equally tight, with only two games being won in three straight sets, was the Rawreth B v Rawreth C derby.

Two wins a piece from Gus Heath, Babul McLeod and Dave Calleja eventually saw the B side triumph 6-3.

In Division One, Lentern C started the New Year as they finished the old one.

They continued their winning streak and overcame Canvey B by the one-sided scoreline of 8-1.

There were hat-tricks for Lentern’s Ian Rattray and Steve Appleby but Tony Reed stopped the whitewash.

Canvey A came through victorious against Rawreth D 5-4 despite Rawreth’s Neil Want securing a hat-trick.

A team effort from Runnymede B helped them beat Lentern E 6-3 with all their players winning two games.

A hat trick for Warehouse A’s Martin West led them to a 6-3 win over Hadleigh Forum B and Roy Thomas secured a maximum in Custom A’s game against Lentern D but it was not enough to win the match for Customs who lost 5-4.

In Division Two, TT-on-Sea Juniors turned in a great performance for a 5-4 victory over Rawreth E.

Another team performance from Hadleigh Forum C meant they overcame Warehouse C by 6-3.

A very strong Hullbridge C side thrashed Runnymede C 9 – 0 with maximums from Andy Seaman, Linda Attridge and Bill Smith and RESSC A overcame Wakering by the same 9 – 0 score.

In a couple of catch-up matches from earlier weeks’ postponements due to snow, Runnymede C beat Canvey C 9–0, with Chris Liu, Steve Giles and Tony Coeshall all unbeaten and Whittingham overcame Invicta A 5–4 with Craig Harris winning his three.

In Division Three things are tight.

Only five points separate the top three teams.

Leaders Castle Point A beat third placed St. Peters 6-3.

Second placed David Lloyd Centre reduced the gap at the top with an 8-1 win over Invicta B thanks to spectacular hat tricks from Steve Marr and Jan Thorpe.

Rawreth F saw off Hullbridge F 7-2 while Hullbridge E secured a 5-4 win over Runnymede D despite a Simon Hawker hat trick.
