SHATTERED – but happy to be home.

That was jet-lagged Dan Henderson who is Thorpe Bay Yacht Club’s latest world champion.

The new Musto Skiff class world title holder had just flown back from his success in Australia and came to Thorpe Bay Yacht Club for a special reception.

Club members and pals, young and old, gathered for a champagne reception and to chat to Dan, 20, about his experiences at the Black Rock YC in Australia where he scooped the world crown.

The Portsmouth University student thanked club members for the warm welcome.

His winning performance at the event in Australia was one of the best by a British dinghy sailor in a non-Olympic class singlehander on the world stage for several years.

And it came despite his relatively light weight which put him at a disadvantage for the heavier wind races and big swells.

Opponents in the class included the multi-talented Marcus Hamilton, one of Australia’s best sailors, top German 49er class racer Julian Ramm, former Contender singlehanded world champion Ian Renilson from the UK and other top dinghy sailors from New Zealand, Russia and Austria.
