SOUTHEND United’s makeshift striker Bilel Mohsni felt he was robbed of a winning goal against Northampton Town at Roots Hall on Saturday.

Blues had to settle for a 2-2 draw after throwing away a two-goal lead.

But Mohsni is certain his close range effort should not have been ruled out for offside 12 minutes from time.

“I was very angry about it because I was not offside,” said Mohsni who tapped home after Cobblers keeper Sam Walker had parried out a powerful shot from Ryan Hall.

“I was not in front of the defender but the linesman seemed to be against me the whole game. If he seemed to be unsure about what to do he would give it offside and that just made it so frustrating.

“The decision was wrong and probably stopped us winning the game. I was also pushed out of the way right at the end when I was going through and that’s why I was so annoyed.”

Mohsni was subsequently booked for taking his anger out on the corner flag but he was full of smiles earlier on after giving Blues the lead with an outstanding strike.

The Frenchman fired a scorching 35-yard shot in to the top right-hand corner of the net.

And he was thrilled to work his way on to the scoresheet.

“I had team-mates nearby but the coaches often say that sometimes instead of passing you should have a shot so that’s what I did,” said Mohsni. “It opened up for me as well after I had controlled the ball and I was very happy to see it go in.”
