HULLBRIDGE SPORTS progressed from a preliminary round of the Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy with a 2-1 home win over Sawbridgeworth Town.

The visitors took the lead in the 32nd minute through George Wappett.

But Craig Gillam equalised with a direct free-kick, and then ht the winner just 11 seconds into the second half following a flowing team move.

Sports’ caretaker boss Colin Cook said: “It was not a great performance, but it was a good result and it was nice to go through.”

BOWERS & PITSEA picked up their second league point of the campaign with a 1-1 at home to Eton Manor.

Calvin Poku gave Bowers a 57th minute lead with a neat one-on-one finish, but Daniel Hanshaw leveled the game 15 minutes from time.

Bowers boss Jamie Warren said: “We played the better football and should have been three or four up.

“But we did not take our chances and got punished for it.”

But it was another bitterly disappointing day for Basildon UNITED.

A Jamie Williams goal put them 1-0 up after two minutes at Barking.

But then they had Alberto Pinto and then Williams sent off in the first 20 minutes, before Barking equalised just before the break with a penalty from Ben Turner.

And the hosts claimed all three points five minutes from the end with a goal from Ben Jones.

“It was another day when things just did not go our way,” said Basildon boss Paul Larke.

SOUTHEND MANOR will host Cheshunt in an FA Cup replay tomorrow night after the two sides played out a goalless draw on Saturday.

It was a gutsy performance by the Essex Senior League side against their Ryman One North hosts.

Manor chairman Bob Westley said: “We were holding on in the early stages but then we came back into it and had three great chances to win it.

“So we acquitted ourselves well, and we’ll be looking to do the same at home on Tuesday.”
