LEAGUE Two defences beware - Southend United’s makeshift striker Bilel Mohsni is about to start playing with even more energy.

The fiery Frenchman could not eat during daylight hours in August as he observed Ramadan.

But the strict Muslim is now able to maintain a regular diet once again.

“Ramadan isn’t as hard as people would think but I will have more energy now I think,” said Mohsni, who scored a screaming 35 yard shot for Blues against Northampton Town on Saturday.

“It was harder to not be able to have a drink than not being able to eat at times, especially during the games and training.

“It has finished now though and I hope I can start to play more regularly again.”

Mohsni was handed just his third start of the season when Blues hosted Northampton at the weekend after manager Paul Sturrock had previously opted to leave him out due to his waning energy levels.

But Mohsni now hopes to have done enough to stay in the side when Southend head to Swindon on Saturday.

“I want to play again because we were all so frustrated after drawing against Northampton,” said Mohsni.

“We want to put it right against Swindon and I want to be involved in that.”
