SOUTHEND United are closing in on Bohemians striker Anthony Flood.

The 27-year-old Irishman played as a trialist for Blues reserves against Colchester United nine days ago.

And Southend boss Paul Sturrock was so impressed that he has now offered the forward a contract until the end of the season.

Flood stands at 6 ft 3 ins tall and is able to hold the ball up well.

He has bagged eight goals in 33 league games for Bohemians having previously played for Örebro SK in Sweden.

Flood has also played for St. Patrick’s Athletic, Shamrock Rovers, Athlone Town, Dundalk, Galway United and Shelbourne where he scored 37 times in 76 league outings.

However he may not be able to figure at Northampton Town tomorrow even if Blues do complete a transfer today as they would also require international clearance for him to play and are unlikely to receive that in time.
