RYMAN PREMIER: A HOST of spectacular saves by keeper Bobby Smith gave a plucky Wingate side a hard-earned point at Thames Road on Saturday.

It was a scrappy first half in which Concord took the lead from the penalty spot after Harry Elmes got in behind and was chopped down before he could pull the trigger.

Tony Stokes stepped up and duly slammed the ball home for his 26th goal of the season.

The Beachboys went close to doubling their lead twice, with two Sherwin Stanley efforts producing top class saves from Smith.

Harry Elmes was next in line to be denied as he turned his marker and clipped an effort across goal which Smith tipped wide.

Ashley Miller made a mazy run down the right before unleashing a volley which Smith again dealt with.

Stokes was denied his second by Smith, before Wingate equalised following a swift move which saw the ball whipped into the near post for substitute David Smouha to get across his marker and flash the ball past Nicky Eyre.

The in-form Beachboys then pushed hard for a winner and Harry Elmes latched onto a decent pass and chipped agonisingly over the bar.

But it was that man Smith who had the final word again as he blocked from Stokes at his near post to earn his side an unlikely point.
