TEENAGE golfer Dulcie Sverdloff has grabbed a slice of national glory by winning the British Colleges Sport national championship.

It was the first time the 17-year-old Southend player had entered the competition and she finished two strokes clear of her nearest rival.

Now the Seevic College student is hoping to build on her success this season.

“It’s nice to shoot a couple of good scores and give myself a quick start to the season,” said the Garon Park player.

Dulcie shot a one-over-par 74 in her first round on the Hotchkin course at Woodhall Spa in Lincolnshire.

And she followed it up with a one-under 71 on the Bracken course to beat Samantha Meese (Enville GC/King Edward VI Stourbridge) into second and Rebecca Horner (Woodham GC/QE Darlington) into third.

Former Shoeburyness High School pupil Dulcie, who is studying A-levels at Thundersley’s Seevic, was ahead by two strokes after the first round and stepped up her challenge in the second.

A strong finish saw her hole from 30 feet on the 16th for a par and birdie the 18th.

“Dulcie is really chuffed to have won the championship,” said dad Aaron Sverdloff.

“She is at a standard now where she can compete at the higher level of the amateur game, in the elite events.

“Winning gave her a real confidence boost and hopefully she will now have a good season.”

Dulcie is now carefully planning which events she will contest in 2012 and is structuring her practice accordingly.

She is heading to Formby Ladies Golf Club in Liverpoool to contest the 2012 Leveret Trophy, a 36-hole open competition, on Saturday, March 31.

And the former Ballards Gore cadet is scheduled to follow that up by playing in the Irish Girls Under-18 Open Stroke Play Championship at Roganstown GC in County Dublin on April 21 and 22
