SOUTHEND United chairman Ron Martin has revealed the Shrimpers are keen to sign two midfielders and two strikers.

Martin met with manager Phil Brown and his backroom team yesterday and will now push to bring new players to Roots Hall.

“The meeting laid the foundations for us to progress with negotiations for two midfielders and two strikers,” said Martin.

“The club have made an offer for a midfielder at a Championship club and the other three we’re after are also in the Championship.

“The meeting also focused on the level of injuries, including Rob Kiernan, which has had an impact on our anticipated success.

“But we are motivated to change our form and I am confident we will.”
