Southend United’s under-18 side registered their first point of the season following an entertaining 3-3 draw away to MK Dons.

Danny Heath’s side trailed 1-0 at the interval to an Ollie Leach goal, but a stunning spell of three goals inside five minutes - two by substitute Tommy Lambourne and another from Bobby Unwin - at the beginning of the second half turned the match on its head.

However, MK Dons responded with a trialist and Tali Jallow netting in quick succession and the teams had to be satisfied with a point apiece.

Blues had dominated the first half-an-hour of the match but, as the half drew towards a close, MK Dons took the lead when Leach picked his spot from long range.

Southend equalised in the 52nd minute with Lambourne firing home the rebound after Freddy Eastwood’s shot had been parried out by the goalkeeper.

Three minutes later, Lambourne was celebrating again as he netted after a fine run forward from Unwin.

With 57 minutes on the clock, Blues made it 3-1 when Eastwood teed up Unwin to score.

Dons hit back with a well-taken effort just five minutes later before levelling things up with another excellent effort from long range.

The young Shrimpers will now be looking for their first win of the season when they host Cambridge United at Boots & Laces on Saturday.
