SOUTHEND United striker Theo Robinson is excited to have joined Colchester United on loan.

Robinson, who has started just once for the Shrimpers so far this season, will be with the U’s until January.

And the 30-year-old forward cannot wait to get started.

“I’m really excited,” Robinson told Colchester’s official website.

“I want to come here and play football and help the team achieve good things.

“Hopefully, with my experience, I can help the rest of the boys.”

Robinson, who has scored 20 goals in 104 appearances for Blues, also spent the second half of last season on loan in League Two with Swindon Town.

And he hopes his latest stint away from the Shrimpers will be equally as successful.

“I had a loan spell last year with Swindon which I really enjoyed,” said Robinson.

“I scored seven goals in 15 games and it would be great if I could do that here now.”

Colchester have taken five points from their first five games in League Two but hit the headlines in the Carabao Cup earlier this week when winning at Crystal Palace on penalties.

The U’s will face Tottenham Hotspur in the next round but Robinson will not be able to feature after coming off the bench for Blues at Stevenage.

However, Robinson is looking forward to linking up with former Blues team-mate Frank Nouble.

“I know a couple of the boys, especially Frank who I’m good mates with,” said Robinson.

“I spoke to him before coming here and he said it was a really good set up so I can’t wait to get going.”
