SOUTHEND United’s caretaker manager Gary Waddock is keen for a permanent appointment to be made at Roots Hall.

Waddock has taken charge of the last four matches following Kevin Bond’s departure.

But, following Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Accrington Stanley at Roots Hall, Waddock wants chairman Ron Martin to quickly name Bond’s successor.

“A decision needs to be made very quickly for the benefit of the football club,” said Waddock.

“To get someone in place would stabilise everything and they can put their ideas in place, whoever that may be.

“It can’t go on and on.

“At some point a decision needs to be made for everyone for the staff, the supporters, the players everyone so we know what direction we’re going in.

“But it’s the chairman’s decision.”
