CHRIS Iwelumo does not understand Southend United’s interest in Henrik Larsson.

The Swede remains in pole position for the managerial role at Roots Hall.

But, talking on Talksport, Iwelumo felt Blues would be better off looking elsewhere.

“Is it a stunt? I don’t understand it,” said Iwelumo who counts Colchester United among his former clubs.

“There’s good coaches around.

“You look at the managers that are out of work at the minute, the likes of Neil Harris and Sol Campbell who did excellently to keep Maclesfield in the League.

“That’s the pathway to go down because they know the game and they know the leagues.”

However, Iwelumo feels Larsson and his proposed assistant Dirk Kuyt would know very little about League One.

“Bringing in Henrik Larsson and Dirk Kuyt what do they know about the league itself?,” questioned Iwelumo.

“As a manager that’s important because they can’t learn on the job.

“They’re coming in and straight away they have to get up to speed with the players and the quality they’ve got.

“They will have to assess that and very quickly they will have to find out about the opposition and what the level is.

“It’s a mountain to climb.”
