SOUTHEND United chairman Ron Martin is adamant the Shrimpers will not suffer relegation this season.

Blues - who head to Tranmere Rovers on Friday night - have taken four points from their first 12 games of the season.

But Martin is certain things will soon start to improve.

“The fans will have different views on this but we will not go down,” Martin told Talksport. 

“I think this team is good enough. Yes we do need someone at the helm and we do need leadership but there’s no dissent in the camp.”

Blues again look set to have Gary Waddock in charge against Tranmere but he will not be given the job on a permanent basis. 

“Gary’s a really nice guy and a good coach but I think it needs a different person to take control and perhaps a different regime,” said Martin.

“But I can’t do that overnight.
