WEST Ham United have bought well in the summer transfer window - but it would all be forgotten if they sell Manuel Lanzini.

The Argentinian playmaker - who was sorely missed in the Hammers’ 4-0 thrashing at Manchester United in their opening Premier League clash of the season - has been linked with a move to Liverpool should Philippe Coutinho be sold to Barcelona.

Although Jurgen Klopp’s side do not want to sell the Brazilian, Coutinho could force his way out after handing in a transfer request.

And if he gets his wish, Liverpool would get up to £100million for his services - which would be more than enough to buy Lanzini.

But Slaven Bilic and the club’s owners must make sure that Lanzini is not sold.

The attacking midfielder is West Ham’s most creative player. Since Dimitri Payet forced his way out in January, he has become the Hammers’ focal point.

And Lanzini is the sort of player that will bring the best out of summer signings Javier Hernandez and Marko Arnautovic.

Lanzini will give Hernandez plenty of service, which will allow him to become a prolific goalscorer in claret and blue, and he will also chip in with goals along with club record signing Arnautovic.

Should West Ham let Lanzini depart before the end of the transfer window, it would be senseless.

There is simply no-one that West Ham could bring in at this stage of the window that could replace Lanzini.

The Hammers have been linked with Sporting central midfielder William Carvalho.

The Euro 2016 winner would cost £25million and add steel to the Irons midfield.

But he should not be West Ham’s priority as losing Lanzini would undo all of the promising business they have done so far.
