WEST Ham United winger Robert Snodgrass is edging closer to a season-long loan move to Aston Villa.

The Scotland international joined the Hammers in a £10million deal from Hull City in January.

But Snodgrass has failed to impress West Ham boss Slaven Bilic and the Croatian has told the former Leeds United man that he is surplus to requirements just eight months after moving to the London Stadium.

Snodgrass has been linked with moves to Leeds United, Sunderland and Birmingham City since being made available for transfer.

But it appears a reunion with former Hull City boss Steve Bruce at Aston Villa is most appealing to Snodgrass.

However, the Championship side are only willing to take the winger on a season-long loan deal.

Snodgrass, 29, found it difficult to break into the Hammers’ squad last term despite the east London club enduring a problematic season.

Seven of Snodgrass’ 15 West Ham appearances have come as a substitute, while he is yet to score a goal in claret and blue.

Meanwhile, Bilic has not ruled out making one more signing before the transfer window slams shut at the end of the month.

Sporting defensive midfielder William Carvalho has been heavily linked with a move to the club. But the Hammers chief would not confirm the rumours.

Bilic said: “Like most of the clubs, we are ready to do something both ways in case something good comes, so that is a maybe.”
