I THINK that Angelo Ogbonna has been one of West Ham United’s best players this season.

I have always liked Ogbonna and felt he was a brilliant signing when former boss Slaven Bilic brought him in from Juventus.

West Ham were out of form earlier in the season and, because of the Hammers conceding so many goals, Ogbonna was not getting the plaudits.

David Moyes came in as manager and he quickly realised that the players’ fitness levels were poor.

A lot of the players have improved greatly under Moyes, with Marko Arnautovic being a standout example because he is unplayable at times.

But Ogbonna has been an unsung hero this term and is surely a contender for the Hammer of the Year award.

Being a left-footed central defender, he gives West Ham something different. He can play in a back three or back four and he is quicker than a lot of people think.

I’ve met him a few times as well and he is a really nice guy.

He’s not had many bad games and he will need to be at his best when West Ham return to Premier League action at Liverpool this weekend.

Liverpool are in top form, as was shown by their dominant display at Porto in the Champions League last week, and their front three of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane is scary.

They attack from the front and they can destroy teams in 10 minutes.

Liverpool beat Manchester City at Anfield earlier this season, where they showed what they are capable of.

If West Ham want to get anything from the game, they will need to keep it tight and make sure they don’t concede early on.

The Hammers will go into the game on the back of a 2-0 win over Watford, and I think Moyes will stick with the same team at Anfield.

However, it is good to see Manuel Lanzini returning because he is such an important player for West Ham, and Moyes could decide he needs his creativity from the start.
