AVRAM Grant has exploded his image as football's 'Mr Glum'.

The Israeli is famous for never celebrating a goal but insists he has to fight to control his emotions.

If the rock-bottom Hammers beat Arsenal in the London derby today, however, he revealed how much it would mean.

Grant, whose side are looking to make it three wins in a row at home after beating Barnsley in the FA Cup and Birmingham in the first leg of their Carling Cup semi-final, said: "I am more happy than anybody but we don't have time to celebrate and we don't have time to be sad after we concede a goal.

"We need to think immediately what we have to do. I am very happy when we are scoring a goal.

"Xavi (Barcelona's midfielder) said it is like an orgasm. For me it is more than this.

"When you win it is a great feeling. It's very easy to show your emotions but I control myself. I sleep very good before the games. I don't sleep good afterwards because then the emotions come out."

Martin O'Neill has been linked with Grant's job in the past week.

But Grant, who believes 35 points will not be enough to avoid relegation this season, said: "It doesn't concern me. I have a job here and I have to focus on that. I love the vision of the club. It's a big, big challenge.

"We have made progress on the football side. We are at the bottom but we are not worse than any of the seven teams down there.

"We are two points from 14th place. I think we are doing the right things. I do not think we will be bottom at the end of the season. If I thought that I would not be here.

"The football is okay, the spirit is okay. We are defending better and are more efficient in attack."

After signing Wayne Bridge on loan from Manchester City, Grant was hoping to reinforce his side further with a bit of help from his big pal Harry Redknapp.

The West Ham boss wanted to take Spurs striker Robbie Keane to Upton Park but faces stiff opposition after Birmingham stepped in with a reported £6million bid for the Republic of Ireland striker.

Grant admitted he has three transfer targets in mind and was reluctant to talk about the possible arrival of Keane, although he was happy to confirm Redknapp's hint that the striker was a target.

Grant, wary after missing out on Steve Sidwell, who eventually joined Fulham after passing a medical at Upton Park, said: "I do not want to say anything about any player before we are signing him. I did it one time and it was a mistake.

"I agree with everything Harry said. It's not a secret that I'm a friend of Harry. I am speaking with him every two days.

"There is some player we want to bring for sure. It's not easy. Maybe some of the players you need to give a long-term contract. We are dealing with this."

Bridge will make his debut against Arsenal while Danny Gabbidon and Lars Jacobsen return to the West Ham squad following injury.

Meanwhile, West Ham received a boost for their proposed move to the Olympic stadium when 72 per cent of fans in a poll conducted by the influential independent supporters' group, 'West Ham Til I Die,' said they were open to a move to the Stratford site.
