BOYCE HILL: Boyce Hill’s Youth Shield team headed to the sunny shores of Portugal to take part in what was their first international fixture.

The eight boys, aged between 13 and 17 were invited to a tournament at Amendoeira Golf, in Southern Portugal, where they competed in a friendly competition against a local Youth Shield team from the Faldo Vilamoura Golf course.

The boys from Boyce lost 5-3 to a very strong Portuguese side but enjoyed their first international game around the beautiful course, as they made friends on foreign shores.

James Claydon, an ex-Boyce cadet had moved to Portugal and suggested the trip with Jacob Dobbin, Freddie Taylor, Tom Hicks, Liam Mann, James Butler, Joe Whiting, Callum Ebbsworth and Patrick Arundle heading out from the club.

Accompanied by Andy Taylor and Bill Passfield, senior members at Boyce, it is hoped that a return match will be arranged in the hope it may become an annual fixture to foster friendships between the two areas.

Elsewhere, the Boyce Hill team won their first round in the Norman Plum Trophy against Abridge both home and away by 4½ to 1½.
