SOUTHEND’S two high schools once again dominated the borough’s schools cross-country championships at Blenheim Park.

The High School for Boys won the overall title after winning the team prizes in all five of the races and that was a feat matched by the High School for Girls.

There was individual success for rivals to cheer about, however, as Shoeburyness and Eastwood Academy picked up two wins apiece.

YEAR 7 BOYS

There was a blanket finish in the youngest age group with the top three separated by just three seconds.

Southend High School for Boys’ Lawrence Hudson had the fastest finish, finishing a second ahead of team-mate Luka Warren and two ahead of Eastwood’s Oliver Pearson.

YEAR 8 BOYS

The Year 8 boys race was nearly as tight as the younger age group and it was Eastwood’s Sam Brogan who came out on top, getting the better of Luca Albon (SHSB) and St Thomas More’s Joseph Trim.

YEAR 9 BOYS

Sam Norris was a convincing winner over the 3.6km course, finishing comfortably clear of his Southend High team-mate Thomas Stuttle. Zak Miller, of Eastwood, finished in third.

YEAR 10/11 BOYS Toby Wright of Shoeburyness High stamped his authority on the race while Southend High team-mates Harrison Smith and Sam Jones had a real scrap for second and third which Smith eventually won.

There was another Shoeburyness success in the oldest age group race with Adam Jordan the most dominant winner of the day, finishing well clear of second-placed Joe Ray (Southend High) with Ronald Dajani (also of Southend High) third.

YEAR 7 GIRLS

Hannah Phipps of Southend High School for Girls was an impressive winner in what proved to be a one-two-three for her school.

Phipps finished more than 20 seconds clear of Natalie Smith with Alicia Lindsay in third.

YEAR 8 GIRLS

Eastwood’s second win of the day came courtesy of Felicity Galbally in what proved to be a tight race.

Galbally finished just three seconds ahead of Southend High’s Isabel Bates with another Eastwood athlete, Amelia Mart, just behind in third.

YEAR 9 GIRLS

Joanna Rimmington was a cut above the rest in the Year 9 race with the Southend High School for Girls runner finishing comfortably ahead of Thorpe Hall’s Meghan Samuels.

Westcliff High School for Girls’ Jenna Williams ran well for third.

YEAR 10/11 GIRLS

It was another Southend High one-two-three in the Year 10/11 girls race with Katie Faint leading the charge.

Faint finished comfortably ahead of Natasha May with Megan Richardson making up the clean sweep of green vests in the top three places.

YEAR 12/13 GIRLS

The green vests dominated the final race too with Olivia Sofroniou taking the win for Southend High and Lucy Kidwell and Abigail Uden finishing in second and third to showcase the school’s dominance.
