LINCEWOOD Primary School were crowned winners of the Basildon Primary Schools’ Swimming Gala after notching 15 gold medals.

The competition, which was held at James Hornsby High School, saw swimmers from years 3-6 take part in individual, relay and medley events involving the front crawl, back stroke, breast stroke and butterfly.

At the end of the event, the scores for all the races were added together and Lincewood were presented with the trophy after finishing as overall winner.

Lincewood’s Fharen Redgrave, Sergio Martos-Orgaz, Skye Carter and Jasmine Carter all came away with two gold medals each.

Meanwhile, Owen Draper, Josh Harding, Louisa Duff, Evie Harris, Michaela Hardy, Jayden Barlow and Lilly Harris also claimed gold medals in a momentous day for Lincewood.

Tim Eastwell, head teacher of Lincewood, was delighted to see his school come out on top and emphasised the importance of swimming for his school’s pupils.

Eastwell said: “I am thrilled that we won the Basildon Primary Schools’ Swimming Gala because we place a lot of emphasis on swimming at Lincewood as we have our own indoor pool and all the classes have swimming lessons once a week for a term and a half of the academic year.

“Claire Clark, our swimming teacher, works tirelessly in teaching all the children at the school to swim and we have introduced an extra session after school for training the elite squad for competitions such as this one and this has clearly been worthwhile as the result and our win has shown.”
