DAVID Lloyd Southend turned up the heat on leaders Thorpe Bay II with a six-point maximum.

Lloyd’s men’s first team beat the top dogs 4-0 at home to take all the points available and close the gap at the top of Leigh & Westcliff LTA men's division two to three points with two games remaining.

W Bailes and T Collett took the first rubber 7-5 6-0 against Thorpe's Jon Knight and Trev Brown.

And a 6-1 6-3 success for A Bradway and W Todd over Joe Murray and Mike Nevin wrapped up the victory for Lloyd.

Westcliff Lawn III gave their hopes of promotion from mixed division five a shot in the arm with a 4-1 win over Westcliff Hard III.

They picked up five points to Hard’s one and that moved third-placed Lawn to within two points of their second-placed rivals with two matches to go.

Lawn drew first blood with Deb Goldhawk and Mark Taylor beating Mick and Debbie Gray 7-6 6-2.

Paul and Chris Phillips then defeated Hard's Jo Edwards and Alistair Houan 6-4 4-6 7-5.

Leaders Hadleigh Park II have secured promotion as they are 19 points clear of second-placed Hard.
